A Little About Taylor’s Fresh Organics
Taylor’s Fresh Organics is a family farm located between Federalsburg, MD and Bridgeville, DE, right along the Maryland-Delaware State Line. Taylor’s Fresh Organics is owned and operated by Bobby, Janna, their three sons, Austin, Gage, Kane, and daughter Callie. The Taylor Family has been farming for five generations on the Eastern Shore, raising livestock and growing vegetables and grain. Bobby Taylor has been farming for ten years on his own, raising many different vegetables and grains conventionally. Growing conventionally has given Bobby firsthand knowledge about the harmful pesticides often sprayed on crops and he did not want this for his family. In 2009, Bobby and Janna decided to start raising vegetables organically. Twenty acres that had been set aside in a Conservation Reservation Program (CRP) for ten years gave them that opportunity. They wanted to start producing organically to provide their family and community with a healthier source of fruits and vegetables and to have a more sustainable farming operation. They also liked the idea of marketing directly to the community.
In 2010, Taylor’s Fresh Organics raised vegetables organically for the first time, selling to local food markets. After great success growing vegetables organically in 2010 and with all the great feedback we received from our customers, we decided to move forward in 2011. Now in 2016 we are growing crops on 275 acres certified organic growing vegetables, grain, and hay. We also have an additional 195 acres that are being transitioned into organic production and plan to add additional acreage in the future.
